Title: Synthetic dimensions in photonics
Speaker: Prof. Shanhui Fan, The Joseph and Hon Mai Goodman Professor of the School of Engineering,
Department of Electrical Engineering, Center for Nanoscale Sci. and Eng., Stanford University
Abstract: The concept of synthetic dimension allows one to explore physics in high dimensions with low dimensional physical structures. In photonics, this concept can be straightforwardly implemented using a ring resonator undergoing dynamic refractive index modulation. In this talk, we will review the basic concept of synthetic dimensions, and discuss its implications for explorations of novel topological physics, and for classical and quantum optical computation.
